Telling Time makes learning to read time great fun! It includes amusing activities and a chance to win prizes. The free-play area lets you move the clock hands anywhere on the dial and hear the time. The "challenge activities" include: Set the Clock – where you drag the hour hand and the minute hand to the correct setting, Which Time? – where you are given the time on a digital clock and you must pick the matching analog clock and, How Long? – a more advanced activity where you must set the clock to a target time that is either earlier or later by a certain number of minutes.
CONTENT:
Telling Time teaches the workings of the hour hand and the minute hand through the best means possible: a talking clock whose hands can be set by the user. It gives children the opportunity to see a digital clock alongside the analog clock, but by being changeable, it provides more than a simple comparison. As the player drags the minute hand around the clock they can see the minutes change up and down on the digital readout. This way they learn the fairly complex ideas underlying a clock such as that 15 minutes is 1/4 of an hour, 60 minutes is a full hour and a full rotation of the hour hand is 12 hours. The "challenge activities" provide a motivating practice-ground for clock reading skills. In the “How Long...” activity, kids work with the concept of time-before and time-after a particular time setting.
